Rd 3 of the Rhino Goo Champs
Let the Goo'd Times Roll
With two rounds already in the can the masses gather once again at the Wilden Kidderminster venue for the latest episode in the Rhino Goo sponsored winter series. The track is in absolutely mint condition and with the weather warm and dry the 65s get the show on the road. At the previous two rounds the Junior winning spoils have gone home with Charlie Kent and Jack Wankling - and the speedy duo are at it again, albeit pressed hard by Dane Reeves. Going into the final encounter with one race win and a third place finish apiece a winner takes all affair awaits between Kent and Wankling. In a terrific little section closer Kent grabs the lead and first holds out Reeves before finally fending off the gritty attentions of Wankling - Reeves claims third overall going 2-2-3. And in a private little skirmish of their very own Sam Davis claims the novice win over Liam Ware.
In a combined 85cc division B/W hotshot and race favourite David Keet looks bang on for the opening win - but he suffers a blown engine and has to retire from the meeting. Ethan Gatenby becomes the grateful recipient, and with a sparkling all around show Gatenby goes on to take the class win in style laying down a 1-1-2 card. The final heat win of the day goes to Lewis Dowdeswell and this following a second and third place finish gives him a well deserved runners up berth. In an entertaining tight scrap for the places George Fountain takes third, followed by Jack Nye and Joe Tobutts. Amongst the embedded S/W runners Welsh terrier Alex Walton proves best and he takes all three heat wins in his capable stride. Following a skillful brace of second place finishes Jordan Wright posts a DNF and he's unlucky to miss out on second overall -- Adam Hill with a 3-3-2 score steams in for the small wheel silver.
In the 125cc division four cracking individual performances from Ricky Roderick, Lewis Clift, Tom Johnson and Robbie Holyoak all catch the eye. Holyoak riding the Suzuki for only the second time proves to be fast starting and his fortunes look good for the later rounds. Roderick, Clift and Johnson all claim a race win each but the greater all around flair and ability of Roderick ultimately prevails winning with an impressive 1-2-2 score.
As in the 125's the Rookie section delivers a small raft of quality performances with Alex Carefoot particularly unlucky not to pick up the overall victory. Carefoot finishes in second with two cracking heat wins to his name - but a race one pile up not of his making ultimately costs him dear. Following the race one melee Luke Houghton pushes on to win and then confidently goes 4-2 for the day win. Consistency with a third place finish in heat two rewards Tom Kennedy with third overall and Adam Wells gives it large after leading heat one to eventually grab fourth overall. Curtis Blamey is another new upgrade to the section and he nails fifth with an opportunistic second place finish in heat one as his highlight. And finally Ricky Roderick doubles up exceptionally well starting with a 3-2 but ends with a DNF.
There are thirty three on the Inters start grid but by the close of play they have been well and truly bashed by Brody Knibbs. A determined and classy day long effort showing little mercy for his compatriots results in two fine heat wins and a second place finish. Liam Garbett is the only exception as he snatches the middle race win and aided by a brace of fourths he claims second overall. Kawasaki mounted Mitchell Powell seemed destined for a podium finish following his 3-3 start but a final race mishap scuppered his chances. In that final race Adam Constable saves his best until last - he finishes in second place and grabs third overall.
With three clear cut and superbly executed wins to brag about the dominant rider of the day award goes to Matt Williamson in the Adult Experts. Williamson is more than happy to pick up the winners cash bouyed with a £20 bonus following his race three hole-shot award. The individual second place finishes in the section go the way of Michael White, Sam Kirby and Ryan Thornhill - and it's Thornhill who claims a solid second overall returning 3-4-2. Kirby posts 6-2-5 and he takes third.
Over on the adjacent smaller circuit Thomas Kear and Robbie Scott share the heat wins with two each in the Auto Experts - but Kear grabs the win backing up with a brace of seconds. There is a similar outcome in the novice Auto's where Becky Scott and Tristan Rowicki grab two wins each but Rowicki takes top spot with his superior 1-2-1-2 card. Beckie Scott takes second overall just edging out a fine show from Brandon Owen. And in the 65cc novice races a comprehensive clean sweep from Juan Pyne rips and wins the day.
