Ready Steady Goo

Round 1

A brand new year, a brand new series, and a brand new set of names to conjure with as Micheal McClurg, Dean Hakes, Robert Yates and Alex Walton put on something of a master class at the opening round of the 2010 Moto Goo Championships held at Stipers Hill Polesworth.

In the Adult Open class Michael McClurg went head to head and bar to bar with James Lassu in all three races, and on all three occasions he came out on top in what was by far the outstanding individual performance. Lassu battled hard in a series of close fought encounters but at the end of the day he had to settle for a 2-2-3 card as Mc Clurg ruled confidently and emphatically. Elsewhere in the section Josh Spinks ploughed something of a lone furrow. He carded two solid third place finishes along with a second place finish in the final race of the day as Lassu in his efforts to catch Mc Clurg temporarily parted company with his machine. Dan Ward got the better of Dan Wilcox and Aaron Paskin to claim fourth in a good little scrap just behind the leaders.

In an adult B group combined with the main race James Delbusso took the honours with all three 45 point scores ending up against his name.

Equally impressive in the youth 125cc section with another clean sweep of race wins it was Dean Hakes who made light of the tricky conditions to get his championship off to a flying start. Luke Houghton always looked as if he might mount a serious challenge but it never quite materialised as he doggedly hung on to speedy Hakes coat tails. Jordan Wills claimed third overall going 3-3-5 in a display that looked full of promise for the future rounds.

In a combined set of 85cc runners Robbie Holyoak stood out as the guy to beat right from the very off - but he found himself right out of luck in race one as he tangled with a back marker and eventually finished in third place. No mistakes from Robbie second and third time out however as he ran riot to claim his first ever overall Wilden Championship win finishing with a 3-1-1card. Robert Yates was the other standout performer in the section and he completely decimated the SW ranks. He also beat the majority of the BW rank powering his way to three impressive maximum points scores. Junior Ross picked up the other race win the BW section and went on to claim second overall as Mitchell Warhurst went 3-2-2 to claim the runners up position in the SW section.

In the Junior 65cc division yet another clean sweep on a difficult day as Alex Walton skillfully fought off the challenge of Owen Woodhouse. Owen made second place his very own in a gutsy little display as Nathan Harlow claimed third from Dee - Jay Walker in fourth.

Dylan Edwards was in terrific form in the Auto BW section. He claimed the opening two race wins in some style, but as he faltered slightly in the final race of the day Zac Clarke crept up on the rails to win race three and steal the overall result by a single point .

In the Auto SW section James Hyett, Robbie Scott and Harry Edmundson shared out the three race wins equally but it was James who eventually went home with the winners smile on his face courtesy of a 1-2-3 race-card. In the two novice sections Abby Doubtfire and Kelton Gwyther won the day. Round Two of the 2010 Moto Goo series will be at Wilden Lane Jan 10th.

Lassu two Goo'd

Round 2

With a great deal of effort from all concerned, and that included a little help from a mechanical shovel, and the very welcome intervention of the milder weather conditions round two of this years Wilden MXC Moto Goo series got underway. The Kidderminster venue was well drained, completely free of snow, and rammed with almost 200 riders as the sun shone down on the smiling faces of the winter MX faithful.

In the Adult Open section A group James Lassu again illuminated the proceedings as he carded two stunning race wins riding his new 450cc Yamaha. In between races one and three however with the radiator on the big Yam having to be repaired- and with James back on the old Suzuki- his luck ran out as the drive chain on the spare machine parted company with it's sprockets. With James left stranded and deprived of the overall win Dominic Foreman duly claimed the race two chequers. Without doubt if Foreman had matched the consistency over the three races shown by youngster Joe Jones he would have won the day too. As it was 250cc two stroke maestro Joe finished with a 3-2-2 card and that proved to be the real winner as Dominic magnificently fought his way back into contention in the final race of the day. Dominic eventually finished in second place overall with a 2-1-6 card. Michael Mc Clurg saved his best performance of the day until last but his third place finish wasn't quite enough to over-turn Danny Ward in the final standings.

In the B group of Adult races Joseph Delbusso once again bossed the show completely as he romped home in all three races. Brad Harrison also gave it large each time out in the chase, Brad finished the day going 2-2-2 as both guys proved to be a real class apart. Gary Audsley won the battle to be the best of the rest and he finished in third overall.

In an enthralling encounter that proved to be the best race of the day Dan Thornhill riding his 125cc Suzuki won the opening youth Schoolboy bash. Dan came from the back like an express train to get the better of David Sweet. A day long head to head between the two guys looked likely but machine problems for Suzuki debutant David in race two put paid to that one. Brad Wheeler stormed home first in that second race as Dan finished in second place. And with David Sweet winning race three by a clear cut margin as Dean Hakes came home in second the overall finish turned out to be a rather tight affair. At the final count Dan Thornhill just had it by two points from Dean Hakes with impressive Brad Wheeler being a further single point adrift in third.

James Harrison returning after injury and making his debut performance on a Honda 150F was the undoubted star turn in the BW 85cc ranks. James caught the attention with a performance that read 1-3-1 and promised much for the coming national season. The battle for second place went the way of Reece Desoer as he claimed the missing race win and ended the day with a more than tidy looking 5-1-2 card.. Jac Mac was the third rider to be constantly in the mix at the sharp end and he finished the day in third overall. Elsewhere in the section there were fine but ultimately unlucky performances from Curtis Blamey and Ellie Caines. A special word for Ellie as she once again managed to feature in all three of the days hole-shots..

The SW 85cc section belonged to Casey Connolly and Robert Yates as they went head to head in a private little battle of their own. The race one encounter went the way of Robert following a titanic little tussle that proved to be the second best race of the day. Casey won race two as Robert un- luckily lost a chain and it was Casey who won the day by winning the final race decider with a rapid fire, cracking little gate to flag performance.

In a bijou set of Junior 65cc runners 10 year old Alex Walton really was on a planet of his own claiming two resounding race wins but a first race machine failure spoilt his day somewhat- and he eventually finishing down in seventh overall. No disappointment however for young Josh Greedy as he gleefully took the opening race win and with two more solid rides claimed the overall win too. In second and third places there were two more plucky youngsters as Denny Rapson went 4-3-4 to claim second and six year old Charlie Kent impressing yet again to claim third place overall.

On the smaller trainer track there were two superb individual three times race winning performances from Zac Clarke and Sam Davies and they duly stole the show in the main Auto sections. In the Novice 65s division Ryan Manley and Jayden Murphy shared out the race wins two each but it was Ryan who claimed the overall win. In the Auto Novice section Jordan Harvey ended the day being top of the pile with two race wins as Abby Doubtfire and Brin Brookes claimed the other two race wins.

Le May on Pole and Worthy

Round 3

With the calibre of Ben La May, James Lassu, Michael Mc Clurg, Ryan Houghton and James Harrison together with well over 250 other riders crossing the start line at Polesworth in perfect winter condtion - round three of this years Moto Goo Championships not only turned out to be the best attended meeting so far, it also provided the classiest racing of the series so far.

With so many adults literally queueing up to ride at round three the top section had to be split into three different race groups. In the main A group Ben La May, James Lassu and Micheal McClurg ripped it up at the front of the pack in spectacular full on action. Lassu and McClurg did all they could trying to get on terms with the flying young Alaskan but at the end of the day La May proved all too strong as powered his way to all three race wins. Lassu carded a pair of seconds with Mc Clurg claiming the other runners up spot as Joe Jones again caught the eye on the two stroke KTM to finish in fourth overall.

Joseph Delbusso kept up his immaculate championship winning average as he once again carded all three race wins in a show of speedy excellence. That's now nine wins from nine attempts in the championship stakes for James.

In the adult Open class it was a far more close and competitive affair with the three race wins being shared out between Aaron Paskin, Adam Costiedine and Ashley Lock. At the end of the day however with a 2-1-3 score being pencilled in on his card it was Adam Costiedine who proved to be the worthy winner.

Following a few weeks away testing in Spain Ryan Houghton returned to the Wilden MXC fray and to good effect too as he totally cleaned up in the mixed capacity 125cc youth races. Three clear cut and emphatic wins for Ryan just as there were a trio of decisive second place finishes for Dean Hakes. In the scrap for third place impressive Harry Brookes just about got the better of an also impressive youngster Adam Wells. Adam finished off his day with a sparkling third place finish.

James Harrison was another runaway winner in the BW 85cc section nailing all three race wins in a thunderous performance on the 150F. James was little troubled all day long and his class shone through. Behind James Brad Freeman with his 2-2-2 card looked clearly the best of the rest as Thomas Davis was almost equally consistent with a 4-3-3 finish to claim a well deserved third place overall.

In many ways the battle for supremacy in the SW 85 section was the most intriguing of the day as Robert Yates, Lewis Houghton and Casey Connolly all crossed swords. Robert Yates won two of the furious encounters with Casey claiming the other race win as Lewis turned out to be the model of consistency going 2-2-2. At the final count Robert won the day with Lewis in second.

As he has so many times just recently Alex Walton completely dominated in the Junior 65cc event. Yet another three race wins on the day and Alex is now a clear favourite for the 2010 Moto Goo title. Behind Alex Nathan Bache caught the eye in races one and two as he finished second on both occasions but ultimately he was right out of luck in race three. Nathan Harlow and Owen Woodhouse were the beneficiaries as they came home second and third in well fought out competitive section.

The MX27 squad were out in force again in the Auto sections with Dylan Edwards in the starring role, Dylan proved to be un beatable in the day's Auto BW races and he claimed the outright win from second placed Liam Gale. In the SW section Harry Edmundson took the honours with a brace of race wins. Lewis Pyne won the other race to finish second overall with Sam Davis again looking the part in third. Another member of the MX27 team Robbie Scott also caught the eye with a few nifty moves to finish in fourth overall. Harvey Matthews with a typically gutsy display gets the award for the trier of the day in the SW section. In the Novice sections Ryan Manley and Bryn Brookes once again finished top of the shop following two superb little displays.

Connolly on the Case at

Round 4

With the track and weather conditions improving steadily all day long, round four of this years Wilden MXC Moto Goo Championship series held at Wilden Lane turned out to be yet another highly successful and competitive day of racing for the 200 or so assembled riders.

In the main adult Open section group James Lassu and Thomas Batty won a clear cut race victory each in the opening two encounters to set up a final third race decider. At one point in race three it looked as if James Lassu had it in the bag as he and Michael McClurg went bar to bar toughing it out at the front.. In the later stages of the race however with both James and Michael temporarily going missing it was Thomas Batty who took full advantage to claim the race and overall win. Consistency also paid dividends yet again for Joe Jones as with a 4-3-3 finish he bought the 250cc KTM home in second place overall. Daniel Irons was always in the thick of the action too. He saved his best race of the day until the end with his second place finish being just enough to edge out James Lassu for third overall.

Just for a change Joseph Delbusso decided to ride his two stroke KTM in the Adult B section but it made little difference as Joseph once again dominated the proceedings. Jack Cox won the opening race but after that it was JD show yet again as he finished the day going 2-1-1. Jack Cox moved over into the Adult Open races as Stuart Chives put in a terrific performance to claim second overall.

The youth 125cc section of mixed capacity racers produced three different race winners together with a host of really eye catching evenly matched performances. Harry Brookes, Chris Povey and Michael White all claimed a race win each as Jordan Wills, Adam Wells, Dean Hakes and Emerson Jones all muscled there way in on the action at the head of the field. At the end of a day of full on toe to toe entertainment Chris Povey's 4-1-3 card proved to be the winner by a single point from fast improving 125cc two stroke Suzuki flier Jordan Wills.

The combined 85cc section was arguably the most entertaining of the day as Sam Wragg, Curtis Blamey, Reece Desoer and Tom Davies all took centre stage with a pulsating performance from each. Any one of the four guys could have won a race but it was Sam Wragg who eventually ended the day as the clear cut winner. Sam came from the back on all three occasions to overpower his rivals but it was no easy overall victory with races one and three going all the way to the chequers as both Reece Desoer and Tom Davies fought every inch of the way.

There was a ten strong group of SW runners embedded within the 85cc race and Casey Connolly once again impressed to the max as he easily won all three races with Connor Mulligan claiming second overall.

With Bradley Malin lining up along side Alex Walton and Jamie Osbourne the Junior 65cc section definitely had a classy edge, look and feel to it. As the day unravelled however Alex Walton proved to be the complete master. Alex won races one and two taking the lead in the opening laps and then dominating all the way to the flag. In the final and best race of the day Jamie Osbourne almost hung on to his lead but Alex reeled him in and nailed him on the final lap. As for Bradley Malin he looked bright and feisty in the opening laps but faded as the small wheeled Cobra seemed to generally struggle a little in the conditions - non the less however Brad battled on to finish in third place overall..

On the smaller track Zac Clarke and Lewis Pyne did their championship hopes no harm at all as they both won their respective Auto sections claiming three more race wins each in the process. In the Auto Novice SW section Charlie Palmer proved he could match anything the rest could do as he also won three of his four races.

Lassu, Poetry in Motion

Round 6 Polesworth

At Polesworth on Sunday roses were red, and violets were blue, as 230 of the MX massive gathered at the Moto Goo. James Lassu, Joe Jones, Joseph DelBusso, Damon Brookes, Robert Yates, Alex Walton and Dylan Edwards proved to be the ultimate St Valentines Day hero's as they all ran riot at round six of the Wilden MXC Championship event.

In the top of the shop Adult A division James Lassu picked up a rear wheel puncture in both of the opening two races but it didn't prevent him from putting on a masterclass and claiming all three race wins in a thunderous performance. The main threat to the Lassu dominance came from Joe Jones and a fast gating Michael McClurg. By the end of the day however it was Joe Jones who had skillfully battled his way through the pack to magnificently nail a brace of second place finishes on a card that read 4-2-2 , and that was good enough for second overall.

In the Adult B races Joseph Delbusso went 1-1-2 and took all the plaudits yet again. Ironically however it was that final race second place finish that proved to be the real highlight as he rode like a demon after giving the field a half lap start as he got tangled in the start tapes.

Joe Jones doubled up in two sections and with all three race wins on his card he completely dominated the Two Stroke races as all the general Argy Bargey took place in his wake. At the end of the day it was Danny Blakeley who finished in second overall as he got the better of Danny Ward in what was at times a great little scrap.

Following 18 frustrating months out on the sidelines there was a glorious return to MX action for Damon Brookes in the youth 125cc section. Damon was immediately bang on the pace and he produced three stomping race wins over an almost equally impressive Alex Meadows on the MVRD Suzuki. Adam Wells and Michael White again caught the eye as they finished in third and fourth overall with Jamie Scott and Jordan Wills rounding out the top six.

In a combined group of 85cc racers there were four standout performances. Three of them came in the BW section as Reece Desoer, Brad Freeman and Kyle Platt put on a blistering show that was second to none on the day. Kyle took the first race win coming from the back in a spectacular fashion and it looked at that point as if he just might clean up - but he unluckily crashed out in races two and three. Brad Freeman gave it 110 per cent through every turn and quite honestly he was a little un lucky not to have carded a race win himself. As it was Reece Desoer blasted his way to the chequers in races two and three to brilliantly nail the overall result .The fourth magnificent little performance came from Robert Yates as he pulped the SW section and gave a great account of himself in the larger 85cc mix.

Alex Walton took all three of the race wins in the Junior 65cc section, but it was Nathan Harlow who improved yet again and the gap between the two boys gets smaller and smaller week by week. Danny Rapson was the best of the rest and he claimed third overall as JC Verdugo nudged out Charlie Kent for fourth. In the Junior 65cc Novice section Jack Edmounds just got the better of Aaron Colley.

In a fast and furious combined Auto Novice race section Dylan Edwards on the BW machine stood head and shoulders above the rest. Arguably the finest of his three race wins came second time out as he sliced his way to the front in a real cavalier fashion. With his 2-2-2 day card Zac Clarke finished in second overall. In the SW section Sam Davies and Robbie Scott shared out the race wins 2-1 in Sam's overall win favour as Finley Smith came home in third. And in the Novice section girl power ruled totally as Katie Booth won the day with Abby Doubtfire in second.

Mattis had Nunn on the run

Round 7 Wilden

Matiss had Nunn on the run. With the MVR-D Suzuki team in the shape of Carl Nunn and Matiss Karro deciding to flex their more than impressive muscles at Wilden Lane on Sunday round seven of this years Moto Goo competition turned out to be a real slice of seventh heaven. The final result of both races one and two in the Adult A section hinged on a couple of last lap incidents where the lead changed hands in dramatic fashion. In the opening race James Lassu blasted his way to the front but it was Carl Nunn who applied the pressure lap after lap as he shadowed the Yamaha runner just waiting for a chance to pounce . As the encounter entered the final lap it looked like a terrific Lassu win was on the cards but an error in the closing stages handed the win to the Suzuki ace as Matiss Karro finished in third . In race two Lassu again made a good start but he got tangled up in a second corner melee as both of the Suzuki pilots carved it up at the front. With the MVR-D teamsters now fully familiar with the track it looked very much as if the race were destined to be a cosy Nunn, Karro 1-2 finish. But almost with out warning and with just half a lap to go Matiss appeared to have other ideas as with a spectacular move he sliced under his teammate to nail the race win. In the third and final race with Matiss now firing on all cylinders he worked his way to the front in quick fire fashion. In the process he mugged a fast gating Seb Osbourne and it was Carl Nunn who was left in the chasing position. As the final flag beckoned Carl had closed the gap right down but he couldn't or didn't want to make the pass and it was Matiss who took the overall win by a single point, with Carl Nunn in second, and Lassu in third. In the Adult B section there were three different race winners as Lewis Hill, James Griffiths and Ryan Marshall claimed a 45 point maximum each but with a 2-1-2 card James Griffiths did more than enough to claim the overall win. In the Two Stroke section it was that young man again as Joe Jones with two more impressive race wins finished on top of the overall pile but he didn't have things all his own way as Danny Blakely claimed the final race win of the day and scored second overall.

Ryan Houghton on the 250F Danger UK KTM proved to be far too strong for the rest in the Youth 125cc section and he ultimately delivered what appeared to be three easy race wins. In Ryan's wake however there were a couple of fine performances from both Dan Thornhill (2-2-2) and Adam Wells as they bought their 125cc two stroke Suzukis home in second and third places overall. In a combined set of 85cc runners the overall BW honours went to a young guy who has only been racing for 18 months but non the less Lewis Clift performance sparkled almost as much as the winter sunshine. Lewis won both races one and three. It was Charlie Cundle who claimed the other race win and he finished in second overall.

The best performance of the day however judging the section as a whole came from little Robert Yates as he not only won the SW division but actually crossed the line first on two occasion's and beating all the BW guys in the process. With a 3-3-3 card Lewis Houghton finished in second place overall in the small wheels as Ollie Benton and Jack Edmundson shared out all of the second place race finishes, 2-1 in Ollies favour.

Alex Walton putting the finishing touches to his winter preparations before he goes off trophy hunting in the nationals again looked strong and impressive with all three Junior 65cc race wins to his name. Kyle Smith did well in the tricky conditions to finish in second overall as did seven year old Charlie kent who finished in third with a machine that had day long clutch problems.

On the adjacent smaller Auto and Novice trainer track there were two real powerhouse performances from both Zac Clarke in the Auto Big Wheels and Sam Davies in the small wheels as they claimed three race wins each. Abby Doutfire once again won the Novice section with two race wins to her name.
